Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul was born |
in 1970 in the north east of Thailand. His place of birth |
and parents have been a major influence in his films, |
shaping the landscape and the content of the films. As |
a director the style stands apart from the standard films |
made in Thailand, where the inspiration came from |
Hollywood. Thai cinema which touched a low in the |
’90s |
took on a new trajectory with its ‘New Wave’ directors |
Nonzee Nimibutr, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and Apichatpong |
Weerasethakul. |
