::: APICHATPONG WEERASETHAKUI :::

THE INNOVATOR OF PERSONAL
AND EXPERIMENTAL CINEMA
Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul was born
in 1970 in the north east of Thailand. His place of birth
and parents have been a major influence in his films,
shaping the landscape and the content of the films.  As
a director the style stands apart from the standard films
made in Thailand, where the inspiration came from
Hollywood. Thai cinema which touched a low in the
’90s
took on a new trajectory with its ‘New Wave’ directors
Nonzee Nimibutr, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang and Apichatpong
Weerasethakul.
An architect designer by training he sees
his films as, “constructions, of a frame based unit very
similar to the building process.”
